Dog needs

Every dog needs food, water, exercise etc.

But the dog has individual needs, even the same breed can have different needs from you.

Some dogs are more cuddly, some like games, you need to cater for your dog.

Don’t expect this dog to be the same as the last one.

Personality has alot to do with it.

Breed traits

When we choose a dog to join our family it is important we understand them.

Breed traits are the essence of your dog and these are not changeable.

If you get a noisy breed you have to accept noise, but make sure it doesn’t get out of hand.

If you buy from working stock then your dog will need a job.

If you buy a couch potato you will need a big sofa.

Look at what your dog needs, not what you want!

Dogs that have true episodes can loose part of them.

The can change and be a different dog, similar to people having breakdowns.

The recovery can be long and is hard and still some don’t make it.

Dogs suffer Psychosis due to bad breeding, medical conditions and trauma.

Psychosis

It is rare that I come across a dog with Psychosis but this happened just before Christmas.

This dog had the biggest meltdown possible and was left as a anxious mess.

Most dogs like this end up being put to sleep, I was thankful for a good vet and a knowledgeable owner.

The main things in these cases are behaviour help straight away, vet for meds and keeping the dog  secluded for recovery.

Winter

During winter there are some hazards for your dog.

Salt on the roads is toxic and paws need washing so your dog doesn’t lick them.

Extreme temperatures so make sure if your dog is wet they are dried and warmed slowly.

Slippy surfaces can mean leg damage.

Be careful with your dogs they are precious.
